One of New York City's most prominent business leaders has died at the age of 92.

Joseph Mattone, founder of Mattone Investors, died Thursday at his Long Island home, the New York Daily News reports.

Mattone was born in 1931 to Italian immigrants, according to a statement from St.

John's University, where he was the first in his family to go to college.

He earned his bachelor's and law degrees at St.

John's College, where he was the first in his family to graduate cum laude, according to the university.

Mattone went on to become one of New York City's most prominent real estate developers, with a portfolio of more than 4 million square feet of commercial, residential, and industrial real estate.

Mattone founded his first real estate office in his grandfather's home in Brooklyn in 1955, the Daily News reports.

He went on to partner with McDonald's, Burger King, Exxon, and Mobil on major real estate projects in the New York City area, according to the university.

"Mattone's journey from a humble law practice in Greenpoint to becoming a titan of the real estate industry is a testament to his visionary leadership and entrepreneurial spirit," the university says in a statement Read the Entire Article
