Orange Education Foundation Honors 'People of Excellence'

The superintendent of New Jersey's Orange Public School District has resigned, effective immediately, in the wake of what the district calls a "personnel matter."

The resignation of Ronald Lee, who has been with the district since 2001, was first reported by the New York Daily News.

According to a statement from the Orange Education Foundation, which is a public charity that supports the district's schools, Lee had been with the district for 15 years, serving as the district's assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, director of student services, and superintendent of the Orange Early Childhood Center and STEM Innovation Academy of the Oranges.

He was also the district's first African-American superintendent.

In a statement, the district called Lee's resignation "a personal tragedy for him, his family, and the Orange Public School District."

It said the district "is grateful for his service to the district and to the community."

The district also thanked the Orange Education Foundation for its support of the district during Lee's tenure, which included the opening of the John Robert Lewis Early Childhood Center, the Orange Early Childhood Center, and the STEM Innovation Academy of the Oranges.
