Arizona State University's general studies requirements have been updated, and one new category is getting a lot of attention: sustainability.
The Arizona Republic reports on the changes, which include new Quantitative Reasoning, Governance and Civic Engagement, American Institutions, and Sustainability categories, as well as the addition of "sustainable thinking" to the list of required topics.
"Most universities have mathematics, social science, or natural science requirements but not sustainability thinking," Jos ?'Lobo, a clinical associate professor in ASU's School of Sustainability, tells the Republic.
"I would argue this is where the general studies requirement most reflects the vision that's governing ASU as a university."
Students will have the opportunity to "imagine the future version of the planet and how they may contribute to a prosperous life for all," Lobo says. Read the Entire Article
