Austin's Economic Development Department is looking to boost the city's music scene by offering bigger grants to artists.
The Austin Chronicle reports the department is mulling increasing the amount of money musicians and independent promoters can receive from $5,000 to $30,000.
Previously, the amount was limited to $10,000.
"This needs to be a more substantial investment so that we can move the needle for folks to really get their careers to grow," says Erica Shamaly, the EDD's music and entertainment division manager.
She says the department is also considering increasing the amount of time artists have to promote their music before they can receive a grant.
