The Pennsylvania Downtown Center has given its annual "Townie Awards" to some of the state's best and brightest.
The center's executive director tells the Scranton Times-Tribune that the townies are "a festive and venerable tradition designed to recognize the commonwealth's core communities and individuals for creation and implementation of projects, programs, and events that exemplify the goals of the Pennsylvania Downtown Center's community mission."
This year's winners were announced at the center's annual statewide conference in Scranton last week.
Among the winners: Best Use of Murals: Lackawanna County's Department of Parks and Recreation for its effort to create murals on the side of the county courthouse in Scranton.
Best Use of Art in a Place of Learning: Penn State Harrisburg's College of Visual and Performing Arts for its exhibit on the university's history and culture in the university's new Martin Luther King Jr.
Rotunda.
Best Use of Digital Media in a Place of Learning: Penn State Harrisburg's College of Visual and Performing Arts for its series of videos on the history and culture of the university's buildings.
