Proposals on deck to help Fayetteville arts organizations, other nonprofits with pandemic relief aid

Nonprofits in Fayetteville, Ark., who were hit hard by the Covid-19 virus in the early years of the outbreak, may be able to get some of the $17.9 million the city received from the federal government to help them recover.

The Fayetteville City Council will consider a pair of proposals Tuesday that would allocate $3 million in financial assistance to arts and culture nonprofits and $1 million in financial assistance for organizations that were hit hard by the virus between March 2020 and March 2021, Arkansas Online reports.

The city's existing program for financial assistance to nonprofits covers revenue losses between March 2021 and March 2022, and Council Member Teresa Turk says she wanted to make sure nonprofits had an opportunity to recoup losses they may have incurred at the onset of the first year of the pandemic.

The applications for financial assistance will be accepted beginning in February, and the city's resident-led Arts Council will make a list of recommendations to the City Council by March.

The council has already allocated nearly $7.8 million of the $17.9 million to city uses, including $1.8 million in employee appreciation pay, $500,000 for a child care voucher program, $201,840 for a study to assess water quality at Lake Fayetteville, and $181,100 to a vaccine incentive program.
