Walking the Creative Path: Exploring Innovative Approaches through Movement

There's no better way to start a conversation than with a walk.

So says Simon Poole, an associate of cultural education at the University of Chester and guest professor at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, in a presentation entitled "Walking as a Method within embodied research, integrating the senses, draws upon environmental humanities and arts-based research methods" at the University of Gothenburg this week, per a press release.

"How can walking as embodied interview method for critical public dynamics and privileges? How can walking as a tool contributing to debates about the relations between listening and other senses in education? And how can walking be contributing in affectivepedagogies, spatial exploration of practices, and the institutional and material constitution of legitimacy?" The presentation is part of a three-day program at the University of Gothenburg that also includes a seminar on "pedagogical exploration of walking," a walk of Lund, and a garden walk.

The walking is part of a project called "One by Walking" that brings together researchers from various fields of study.

"The guiding principle behind network methodologies is that interventions in artistic performance can collaborate with scientific researchers working on movement," Poole says in the press release.
