A 40,000-square-foot building in a Chicago suburb is getting a makeover thanks to a $2.8 million grant from the state of Illinois.
The Northbrook Park District's Leisure Center, which has been around since the 1960s, will get a new lounge, additional art spaces, a technology and training room, and a number of other areas, including multi-purpose rooms, dressing rooms, and a demonstration kitchen, reports the Chicago Tribune.
The project is part of the state's Park and Recreational Facility Construction Act, or PARC, grant program.
"The forthcoming renovation is set to bring about transformative change for the Northbrook Park District and its diverse user base," Park District Executive Director Chris Leiner says in a press release.
"Catering to the varied needs of our community, the project will benefit seniors, early childhood programs, theater, visual and performing arts enthusiasts, and those seeking versatile meeting spaces."
