That's what California Department of Education Superintendent Tony Thurmond had to say about the state's 2024 Teachers of the Year, five educators he named Monday as "prime examples of the exceptional work going on in California schools," per a CDE press release.
Casey Cuny, an English and senior myth and folklore teacher at Hart High School and Valencia High School in Los Angeles County; Josephrico, a high school engineering Essentials, Introduction to Engineering Design computer teacher at Ygnacio Valley High School in Contra Costa County; Andrew Lewis, a high school music teacher at Ramon C.
Lewis School of Visual and Performing Arts in Los Angeles County; Hannah Rodriguez, a pre-kindergarten special education teacher at Beardslee Dual Language Immersion Academy in Duarte Unified School District; and Gregory Wolf, a high school dual-enrollment political science teacher at Santa Ynez Valley Union High School District in Santa Barbara County.
Thurmond nominated Cuny as California's representative for the National Teacher of the Year competition, which will be announced in the spring.
