Ball State Trustees Approve Village Revitalization Plan Agreements

Indiana's Ball State University is planning a major upgrade to its main campus in Muncie.

The school's board of trustees on Friday approved contracts that will see the construction of a new Performing Arts Center and Center for Innovation, both of which will be transferred to the university once they're completed, reports the Star Press.

The latter will be a three-story, 30,000-square-foot building that will include a main stage theater with seats for 425, a studio theater with seats for 175, a lobby that will connect to a hotel connected to the Performing Arts Center, a scene shop, costume shop, lighting and sound shops, and a rooftop bar and lounge.

The Tapestry by Hilton Hotel, which will be connected to the Performing Arts Center, will be a 95-year ground lease from Indianapolis-based Schahet Hotels.

"We know how much The Village means to the community and to our students, faculty, staff, and alumni," says Rick Hall, chairman of the board of trustees.

"I look forward to this revitalized district again becoming a hub for arts and culture, restaurants, retail, and other social activity."
