Portland State University's School of Art will now be known as the Schnitzer School of Art + Art History + Design after a $10 million donation from Portland real estate developer Jordan Schnitzer.
The university says the money will fund the construction of a new building dedicated to art and design and the operation of the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on the PSU campus in downtown Portland, reports the Oregonian.
"My hope and the hope of my late parents is that this gift is also a sign of our commitment to downtown Portland, and Portland State University," says the 40-year-old Schnitzer, whose late parents founded the university's art program.
"In my opinion, this is a worthy philanthropic investment to help PSU continue to be an active part of a thriving downtown Portland," he adds.
The university's dean of the College of the Arts calls the gift "a privilege to name our art school in honor of Jordan and his remarkable family."
