The upstate New York town of Lake George has been given $10 million from the state to spend on "high-impact" community improvement projects, including housing, reports the Post-Star.

The town and village won the grant last year as part of the state's Downtown Initiative program, which aims to boost the local economy.

Lake George will use the money to form a Local Planning Committee to help choose projects to fund.

"They think it looks great first glance, but I've got a call next week to talk with them about it refine it," says Dan Barusch, who acts as the leader of the planning offices for the town and village.

A call for proposals will begin in the spring, and proposals should include a project narrative, design documents, and cost estimates, Barusch says.

Among the projects on the list: housing for working people and young families, as well as arts, culture, and recreation projects.

"We've come up with a draft list and we've sent it to the state," Barusch says.
