A high school band director in Plaquemine, La., is this year's recipient of the state's Exemplary Educator Award, the Times-Picayune reports.
Anthony Hollins' four-year plan to turn around the struggling band programwhich had been without a director for several yearswas a tough one, but he and his assistants managed to get it back on track.
"It was rough because me and everyone else in the program always try to find a solution, but every time we came up with a solution, we had to deal with another wave of COVID-19," says Hollins.
"Sometimes it was discouraging, but we knew one day we would get it back where it was, although it was rough in the beginning."
