In the early 20th century, leaders in a small town in Maine filled an area known as Brickyard Hollow with black ash from a paper mill and turned it into a gathering place where workers and farmers would live and a library, school, and Masonic Hall would be built, the Portland Press Herald reports.
"They didn't get along, the two sides of town," says Brad Moll, co-founder and president of Brickyard Hollow Brewing Co.
"We were trying to create a craft brewery that was a gathering place for this little community, and that picture really helped present that."
Now, Moll and a partner have opened eight other Brickyard Hollow Brewing Co.
locations in Maine, five of which have opened in the last year.
Brickyard Hollow's most popular dishes include pulled pork pizza with Fuji apple and red onion, maple-bacon burger, and blueberry banh mi bowl, per the Kennebec Journal.
But it's not all beer.
Brickyard Hollow also offers a "Brickeclectic brew pub menu" with items like burgers and pad Thai, Moll says.
