Vancouver Island University's (VIU's) new Canada Research Chair (Tier 2), Professor Dr. Amanda Wager hopes to create a collaborative and creative community research initiative for upcoming youth leaders.

The lack of art and cultural representation among Mexican-American students sparked Wagner's "desire to teach using the arts and build upon the knowledge of students, their families and communities."

Wager created the Urban Community Action Centre for the Arts, which will be run by and for youth in the community, including VIU undergraduate and graduate students. It will facilitate cross-cultural relationships with Indigenous, non-Indigenous and international communities.

The program will utilize creativity to build relationships within the youth sector. Wager will support the youth leaders on how to become researchers and facilitate the youth-led program.

According to Wager, she plans to spend the first year of her five-year Canada Research Chair term building relationships in the community and developing the program. Read the Entire Article
